Project |01 Off the Presses

The Mercury introduced a weekly web show that recaps the top news, features and sports stories from the week and previews upcoming stories. Along with hosting the program, my responsibilities included script writing, video recording and post-production in Final Cut Pro. The program has developed into a long-format monthly show and can be seen here.

Project |02 Fill the Media Lab

I led a project in which we challenged our TownSquare bloggers to help collect food items and laundry detergent for all of the area food pantries. We called the project, "Fill the Media Lab." We would virtually fill the media lab by taking pictures of the food donated in bins monitored by our bloggers, The Media Lab was a community room in the Mercury building that we used to host blogger meetings. This project was so successful that we were given a grant by the company that owned us at the time to upgrade the Media Lab. The Media Lab is now a room that we open to the public to use computers and microfilm. In the end, we donated 16,190 food items and 690 bottles of laundry detergent.

Project |03 Pinterest Most Wanted

Sparked by an idea by our police reporter, this board was created as a way to better inform the community of criminals that were sought by police. Past most wanted boards we'd attempted didn't work out because of our website's limitations and archiving methods. Pinterest allows people to increase the picture size and more easily share photos, and also makes it easier for our staff to update the site. This project has gotten a lot of media attention.
